Free Library – Coverage of exhibition at Saidpur Village, Islamabad (13 March 2012)

ISLAMABAD, March 13, 2012 (Balochistan Times): The group show of arts, crafts and sculpture by various artists is continued here to revive art and cultural activities at Saidpur Village till March 20. The event has been organized by Nomad Art gallery entitled Nomad Ethnic that setup an art gallery to serve the art lovers as a hub of cultural activities. A collection of over 50 pieces of painting and photography by various artists and sculpture by Abbas Shah are part of the show with the medium of mix-media. The participating artists include Masood A. Khan, Ahmed Habib, Zia Zaidi, Arjumand Awan, Samina Ali, Mashkoor Raza, A. I. Qureshi, Nadeem Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed, Irum Wani, Riffat Ara Baig, Sumera Jawad, Ufaq Ehsan, Nasreen Aurangzaib, Tabassum Rizvi, Anjum Ayub, Azeem Iqbal, Abdul Aziz, Nsir Malik, Riffat Khattak, Samreen Asif, N.H Kazmi, Abbas Shah, Humera, Kulsoom Aftab and Mubashir Iqbal. In the category of photographs, professional photographers like Abrar Cheema, M. Azhar Hafeez, Natasha Gilani, Umair Ghani, Razzaq Vance and Kulsoom Aftab have displayed their work that focus on cultural heritage and traditions of Pakistan. The paintings and photographs depict diverse themes amalgamated with the skills of artists in subjects like landscape imagery, figurative abstract art, still life and symbolic expressions, said Nageen Hyat, Director of the gallery. Samreen Asifs subject matter depicts women with eternal hope of freedom and liberty replete with dramatic colours and romantic atmosphere. Virtually this portrayal breeds elevated feelings of love and care which women need to strengthen and empower their spirits. Ahmed Habib painted the dwelling of his native Potohar region with emotions and fervor and produces fresh and unique compositions which are skilfully created. Ahmeds paintings are visually appealing, dramatic and romantic through symbolism derived from all aspects of life, says Nageen Hyat, Director Nomad. Abrar Cheema captures architectural heritage, stunning natural beauty of snow-covered mountains, valleys, rivers, way of living of Pakistani people in different areas and some glimpses of cultural heritage. Samina Ali Akhtars art work reflect unique elements on a juxtaposed surface of woodcut, calligraphy, natural dyes, stains, gold and silver leaf with powerful compositions and fine details. In her work, Sumera Jawad explores various forms of femininity as depicted through the ages in the realm of art. The use of her broad brush strokes evoke a strong sense of confidence and at the same time tender vulnerability. Red colour dominates her work, producing a riot of contrasting tones which isimpressionistic and contemporary. Anjum Ayub is a print maker who is deeply attracted and moved by the concerns of the soul and use different techniques to create a sanctuary for the soul and then as the world is mortal.
