Exhibition of Summer Colours

Press preview of the paintings by a group of emerging and established artists was held at the Nomad Art Gallery here on Wednesday.

The ‘Summer Art Show’ will be inaugurated on Thursday in which the diverse style of artists will be highlighted.

Hamid Alvi, Ufaq Hussain, Samreen Asif, Riffat Ara Baig, Sajida Hussain, Ubaid Syed, Seyher Ali Qayum and Marium Haider are among the participating artists who have created innovative art pieces.

Riffat Ara Baig has used mixed media etchings on paper, which are experimental and expressionist in nature.

“It reflects my expression of emotional journey that is enriched with my deep observations and firsthand encounters. It also partly reflects the socio-psychic fabric between man and woman, and what a woman thinks about her relationships,” Riffat said.

“My paintings are narrative of incomplete and unfulfilled aspirations. The expressionistic figurative and powerful abstract images come from aesthetics that may also provoke art lovers to explore more out of it,” she said.

Etching on paper is technique of art where sharp and bold colours are used.

Samreen Asif ventured to explore the ways that could lead to knowledge, pursuit and preservation of traditional miniature art.

“After ceaseless struggle, I thought to create a new and novel style of my own, portraying various schools such as Kangra, Pahari and Persian,” she said.

Moonlight, white swans with dramatic moods and lotus pools with lovers create a great feeling for art lovers as the subject matter presents the thought depicting women with eternal hope of freedom through romantic atmosphere.

Ufaq Ehsan, in her works titled ‘Conceptual Impressions’ tries to harmonise various mediums and touches different aspects of one’s life. Her paintings are a tribute to this language of subconscious.

Hamid Alvi, a talented and multi-faceted artist, has painted the cityscapes by capturing landscapes of various cities of Pakistan with sensitivity and skill. The show continues till last week of July.
