Annual show features modern, traditional calligraphy

LAHORE: An annual group calligraphy show titled Qat featuring 20 artists opened at Ejaz Gallery in Gulberg on Tuesday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by prominent scholar Oriya Maqbool Jan. Around 36 paintings were on display at the exhibition featuring both modern and traditional calligraphy.

A large number of art aficionados, students, artists and other guests attended the exhibition.

Muhammad Ramzan of the Ejaz Art Gallery, while commenting on the show, said: “The calligraphy exhibition is a yearly feature at the gallery. Every year we try to rope in seasoned artists to put up a quality calligraphy show.”

He said this year traditional calligraphers such as Zulfiqar Zulfi, R.M. Naeem and Ali Azmat had also come up with their works for the show. This specific exhibition was held every year in Ramazan, he added.

Some of the prominent calligraphers who displayed their works included A.Q. Arif, Abdul Jabbar Gul, Arif Khan, Bashir Ahmed, Chitra Pritam, Irfan Gul Dhari, Jamil Baloch, Mashkoor Raza, Mughees Riaz, Saeed Akhtar, Shahnawaz Zaidi and others.

The exhibition will run for the next 10 days.
