Three artists display work in new exhibition

Three female artists, epitomising their inner strength, sensitivity and courage, brought a mosaic of images in myriad lines in a new exhibition opened at the Nomad Gallery on Wednesday.

Tayyaba Aziz, an artist who took fine arts in her academic year to discover the realistic art, has a Certificate Course from the Central Institute of Art and Craft and an MBA (Marketing) from Hamdard University.

She also studied for two years under Mansoor Rahi to enhance her creativity.

Her paintings have been exhibited at Rahi Gallery, Jharoka Art Gallery, AQS Art Gallery and Grandeur Art Gallery (Karachi) “I am categorising myself as an analytical cubist. I have tried to experiment with analytical cubism by detaching it from monochromatic expressions and bring more life to it,” the artist explained on the opening day.

Tayyaba Aziz depicted the world as it was and not as what it seemed.

“I analysed the subject from multiple viewpoints, reconstruct it within a geometrical framework and create an image by distorting the forms using many colours of full palette. I really enjoyed the geometric formula which solved the problem of drawing three-dimensional objects with the approximation of four dimensions on a two-dimensional surface,” she explained to her visitors.

Similarly, Sumera Jawad, who has a PhD in Fine Arts from the Research Centre, College of Art and Design, Punjab University, focuses on women which have always been the central character in literature, arts and poetry especially in the sub-continent.

Talking about her subject, she said the role of females was vital and the cultural activities and virtues were not complete without their preference and presence.

Sumera Jawad explained that women, being the embodiment of beauty, had been considered from prehistoric times, especially by artists, as an ideal of beauty. Since then, artists have been striving to attain its perfect form and they conceived its adoration as a goddess and an epitome of their ideal.

“History is full of such icons. Every civilisation has its own explanations and reasons for the representation of this image. As art evolves further, the image of the female will be an important inspiration and symbol in an artist’s creative visualisation,” she said.

And colours play a vital role on the human psyche in the attractive impressions by Ufaq Ehsan, who has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National College of Arts, Lahore (NCA).

“My work is inspired by this wonderful world of colours and their healing powers. Sounds, fragrances and people all around inspire the colours I choose and the imagery that prevails in my work,” said the gold medalist.

She said a single painting, from the time it began to the time it was completed, was shaped by the personalities, auras and moods of people around her, which made each painting unique.
