Christmas bazaar

It was a lively fun evening at Alliance Francaise de Lahore on Friday night with a huge participation of families, kids, celebrities and not to forget Santa Clause.

The evening was in fact the ‘Christmas Bazaar’ organised by the Alliance Francaise de Lahore and the Annemarie – Schimmel Haus, associated with the Goethe Institute.

The lawn of the two cultural institutes was full of people of all ages. Stalls for kids and grown-ups, an exhibition of mixed media artworks by Ufaq Ehsan, a 1996 graduate of National College of Arts, pottery stalls and music gave a pretty, dainty look.

The illuminations all over the lawn were a pleasing to the eye. The play area for children was the most noisy place where kids were having fun there.

The mixed media artworks exhibition by Ufqa Ehsan, who is also the niece of Kamran Lashari, was a colourful one, jelling well with a Christmas function. The artist is also a colour therapist and had worked with the Fountain House and other institutions as volunteer.

“My current series reflect the symbols commonly used in Christmas as the exhibition is inspired by the related celebrations, therefore, I used some of the common symbols related to the birth of Jesus Christ,” she said.

Ms Ehsan said she had incorporated the forms of different kinds of flowers, especially the rose, the pine-cone, fish, holly and snowflakes to highlight the history of Christianity. She said she wanted to convey the message of peace through her artworks.
